Why some WhatsApp messages aren't delivered and what to check

Why a WhatsApp message isn't delivered or stays at one check mark: 24-hour window, templates, the number, line quality. What to check in each case.

In a nutshell

A message accepted by a platform wasn't always delivered to the phone. To diagnose it, separate creation, sending to the provider, acceptance, delivery and reading.

Understand the statuses

“Sent” may mean the platform handed the request to WhatsApp. “Delivered” means the channel reported receipt on the device or account, and “read” depends on additional settings.

Don't use a single green status to represent the whole journey.

  • Created or queued.
  • Accepted by the provider.
  • Delivered.
  • Read or replied.

Message validations

Outside the service window you may need a template. Malformed variables, templates from another line or inaccessible files also fail.

Review the final text and the configuration before trying again.

  • Window still open.
  • Approved template.
  • Complete variables.
  • Attachment available.

Channel and recipient

The account's quality or status, recipient restrictions and WhatsApp's policies can prevent delivery. An error response helps classify the problem, but doesn't always reveal the final cause.

Avoid endless retries: they can duplicate messages or make things worse.

  • Valid number.
  • Consent and relevance.
  • Line status.
  • Error code recorded.

Responsible diagnosis

Keep the message ID and its events, compare successful cases on the same channel and check Meta's current documentation.

Volga shows statuses and validates the sending path. If the provider doesn't deliver the content of an event, it can be hidden from the inbox without triggering automatic replies, while keeping the audit option depending on configuration.

  • Don't conclude from a single symptom.
  • Don't resend without idempotency.
  • Document scope and timing.
  • Escalate with evidence.

No. Sent or accepted describes an earlier stage; delivery depends on a later event from the channel.

Should every failure be retried automatically?

No. Some are permanent or configuration issues. First classify the cause and avoid duplicates.
